Have you ever considered what your life would be like without technology? Frightening for most people, one would imagine. How many times a day do you Google, to find something out? It would be necessary to make many trips to the library to accomplish the same research. How did we live before all this new found information?

In preparation for a recent road trip, the car was loaded with luggage, several bottles of water, a bag of tools, just in case something broke down along the way, snacks, and of course all the technology that we could not live without…two laptops, one Surface tablet, two iPads, two iPhones, usb drives, batteries, and chargers to match each.  Pile of electronics This was a total of seven electronic devices, all which virtually do the same thing, just at different levels of convenience. It takes a minor miracle to remember each cord before departing for your next destination. This gave cause for momentary embarrassment that only two people were traveling on this trip!

As the backpack toting all these jewels was unloaded from the car, its weight would have been excluded from an airplane, and wonderment about all this technology filled the thoughts of the traveling parties.  A luggage cart could easily have been essential just to get it from the car to the room. It was asked, could any of this be left behind? We both shook our heads, “No.”

The painful feeling of being away from home, and the sheer possibility that we would be without some device that we may need, caused too much discomfort to leave any behind. It was as if we were leaving one of our dear friends or children. The thought occurred to us at how electronically spoiled and dependent we had become. Is there a 12 step program out there yet for this type of dependency? Please contact me, if so.
